This paper focuses on the effect of incorrectly adjusted front axle alignment
on tyre tread wear and truck fuel consumption. The paper focuses on toe-
in as a key parameter of front axle alignment. Testing was carried out on
three identical DAF XF tractors with different toe-in settings. The geometry
of one vehicle was set according to the manufacturer‘s requirements, i.e.
1–2 mm/1m, for the second vehicle 4 mm/1m and for the third vehicle
7 mm/1m. The assumption is increased tread wear and also higher fuel
consumption due to higher toe-in. In addition to tyre wear and fuel
consumption, the paper also focuses on the economic side of the issue. In
order to ensure the credibility of the results, testing was carried out over
a long period of time in commercial road use.
